The Rode NTH-100 is the company's first pair of professional headphones March 31, 2022by Martin 6 Rode - the company famous for its microphones - has stepped into a new product category: headphones. The NTH-100 is the first pair of over-ear headphones designed for content creators, podcasters, or anyone who wants a pair of balanced wire cans. The company says it's been working on these headphones for years, and from an outsider's perspective, it's definitely one of those things that makes sense. After all, Rode is an audio company, it should have headphones.
Having spent the last two years building up its product C Level Executive List offering for broadcasters and recording artists with multichannel mixers, handhelds and many new microphones, it now completes the picture with headphones. They're not open backs, instead, Rod went in the opposite direction: offering a closed design with foam ear cushions to reduce ambient noise. The headband and cushions are both covered in Alcantara – a premium synthetic material – with a cooling gel underneath designed to dissipate heat from the ears and head. The headphones also have an over-the-ear design that is designed to fit snugly around your ears.
One potentially useful feature is what Rode calls "FitLok." With it, you can easily adjust the headband to fit your head and then lock the position in place so you can only adjust it the first time. After that, it's just the same match, every time. As for the all important sound, the NTH-100 features a pair of 40mm dynamic drivers designed and engineered by Rode to produce "extremely precise frequency response and clarity". They are designed with a voice coil that uses a high tension alloy as well as an ultra-rigid three-layer diaphragm. Combined, the idea is that they are very responsive and durable, so you should find plenty in the way of distortion. In addition, it should respond to frequencies of the entire spectrum, from low bass notes to high trebles. The NTH-100s comes with a 2.4m cable, giving you the flexibility you need.
